Gert Brusselmans is the Fleet & Mobility Manager at Nestlé - Belgium and the Netherlands. When he started managing different mobility suppliers across countries, his day-to-day operations became quite complicated and time consuming. Managing fleet through different lease companies, each with its own platform and data formats, left him juggling multiple systems, manual Excel files, and a labyrinth of inconsistent information. A few months ago Nestlé implemented Muto, so we had a conversation with Gert to understand how it is changing his way of working.
The challenge: fragmented data and manual processes
At the beginning, when there was only one supplier, it was easy. “When I started managing the Netherlands, they had three lease companies active and that made it quite a hassle to really get a picture on what is my fleet, who had which car, and which contracts had to be renewed.” he explains. An internally built Microsoft Access database was meant to bridge the gap, but its limitations only added to the confusion. ”The data between that database and what was on the platforms at the lease companies was not necessarily the same. So if you change somebody in the Microsoft Access database, the lease company was informed on the change and you had two different sources of truth, which took a while to get the accurate information for the correct personal taxation and the battling afterwards.” This meant not only a waste of time, but also risked costly errors in areas like payroll and personal taxation.
“The fact that you have no helicopter view all the time. You don't have a picture of your fleet. Where is my fleet? How many brands/suppliers? How many contracts will expire this year? What is the setup of your current fleet? You don't have the data anywhere available and ready to use. You can’t just type in somebody’s name and see which car from which period, etc. It was always a challenge, and lots of time lost. That's why I started looking for a software tool that could centralize the data and give a picture on the fleet every time you need something out of it” - Gert Brusselmans
After researching mobility data management tools, Gert discovered Muto and decided to centralize Nestlé Belgium and the Netherlands’ mobility operations there. As Head of Fleet & Mobility, he oversees both daily operations and larger strategic projects, such as implementing bike leasing in Belgium. Muto has helped him minimize time spent on operational tasks by integrating data from five different suppliers per country, ensuring every asset—cars, bikes, and charging stations—is accurately logged and accessible. This centralized approach has improved data consistency, reduced manual workload, and freed up Gert’s time to focus on impactful initiatives like expanding bike leasing and advancing Nestlé’s sustainability goals toward carbon zero by 2050.
“With Muto, I can speed up the data flow. I just click on the button in my taskbar to open the platform. Then you click on the search bar, whatever you need, employee, asset, license plate, contract deadline. Everything is there, and it's very easy to navigate the software. You cannot really misclick in MUTO. And then once you see whatever is on your screen, you just click on it to go to the next level.”
By centralizing multiple data sources into a single, reliable platform, he has regained full control over its fleet and mobility management. Real-time data updates have minimized errors that previously caused payroll delays and employee dissatisfaction, while Muto has transformed Gert’s role as a Fleet & Mobility Manager—eliminating the need to spend hours searching for information and allowing him to focus on strategic initiatives that drive real change. Summing up Muto in three words—“One source of truth”—perfectly captures why Nestlé chose the platform: it delivers clarity, efficiency, and control over mobility data.
